Suspect, SWAT Officer identified in deadly police-involved shooting in Baltimore

Baltimore, MD – According to FOX Baltimore, authorities identified the suspect and the Baltimore Police Department officer involved in a fatal police shooting that unfolded on March 10, 2026, in northwest Baltimore.

The incident began around 11:50 a.m. when officers responded to a reported burglary at a residence in the 6200 block of Park Heights Avenue. Upon arrival, the responding officers encountered immediate gunfire from a suspect positioned inside the home. One officer sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during the exchange. Fellow officers quickly applied a tourniquet to the injured officer’s wound and transported him to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for medical attention.

Inside the home, one man and two women were present at the time of the burglary report. The suspect had reportedly taken one of the women hostage. In a desperate bid for safety, the female hostage managed to escape by jumping out of a window, sustaining injuries in the process. She was promptly taken to a hospital for treatment. The second woman also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and received care at a local medical facility.

As the situation escalated, the Baltimore Police Department deployed its SWAT team to the scene. The suspect appeared multiple times at a window of the residence, continuing to fire at law enforcement. Ultimately, a SWAT sniper neutralized the threat by shooting the suspect, who was later pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities recovered a handgun near the suspect’s body.

On March 12, 2026, the Maryland Attorney General’s Office released the identities of those involved. The deceased suspect was identified as 33-year-old Jonathan Ingram of Baltimore. The injured officer was named as Brian Loiero, a 15-year veteran of the Baltimore Police Department assigned to the SWAT team. Officer Loiero was discharged from the hospital following treatment and is now recovering at home.

The Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office has taken over the probe into the officer-involved shooting, as mandated by state law. Investigators are seeking any additional information, including cell phone footage or private surveillance video, to aid in their review. Individuals with relevant details are encouraged to contact the division at (410) 576-7070 or via email at IID@oag.maryland.gov.

This event highlights the inherent risks faced by law enforcement officers during routine calls that can rapidly turn volatile. The quick actions of the responding officers in applying a tourniquet to Officer Loiero’s wound exemplified their training and commitment to one another’s safety. For the victims inside the home, the ordeal underscored the dangers of domestic disturbances escalating into armed confrontations.

Mayor Brandon Scott and Police Commissioner Richard Worley issued a joint statement expressing relief at the officer’s recovery and gratitude for the SWAT team’s precise intervention, which prevented further harm. The Baltimore City Fraternal Order of Police also noted that all involved members were in good spirits following the incident.

As the investigation continues, community members in the Park Heights area have expressed concerns about safety in the neighborhood, where such incidents can disrupt daily life and heighten tensions. The recovery of the handgun near the suspect serves as a stark reminder of the role firearms play in these confrontations. One statistical data point from the event is that Officer Loiero, with 15 years of service, represents the experienced personnel often called upon for high-risk operations like SWAT deployments.

An example of the chaos involved is the female victim’s escape by jumping from the window, a testament to her determination amid the gunfire. This shooting adds to the ongoing dialogue about police tactics and response protocols in Baltimore, particularly in residential areas prone to such emergencies.

The Independent Investigations Division‘s thorough examination will aim to clarify the sequence of events and ensure accountability. For now, the focus remains on the healing process for Officer Loiero and the affected families. For more information, visit FOX Baltimore.
