Delmarva, MD – According to WBOC, a comprehensive multi-agency investigation into a major drug trafficking organization operating across Delmarva and extending to other regions concluded with the arrest of 13 individuals and the confiscation of substantial illicit materials. The operation, which focused on dismantling a network distributing narcotics throughout Maryland’s Eastern Shore, Virginia, southern Delaware, and as far as Baltimore, marked one of the largest such efforts in the area in recent years.
The probe, led by the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Enforcement Team in collaboration with the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, commenced in late 2024 and extended over approximately 15 months. Investigators employed a range of tactics, including surveillance, undercover operations, the execution of search warrants, and wiretapping involving 19 telephones, to identify key participants and disrupt the organization’s activities. Over the course of the investigation, authorities served more than 80 warrants, leading to significant seizures and the disruption of trafficking routes.
Among the confiscated items were 42.61 kilograms of cocaine, 23.8 grams of crack cocaine, and 36 fentanyl pills, alongside quantities of marijuana, heroin, MDMA, and psilocybin mushrooms. Law enforcement also recovered 11 firearms, more than $23,800 in cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales, and seized 11 vehicles along with two residences linked to the operation. These seizures represented millions of dollars in illicit goods removed from circulation.
Thirteen suspects faced charges related to narcotics distribution, conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, and firearms offenses. One additional individual remains at large, and officials indicated that further arrests and indictments could follow as the investigation continues. The collaborative effort involved numerous entities, including the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Maryland State Police, Delaware State Police, Homeland Security Investigations, and various local sheriff’s offices across the involved jurisdictions.
Worcester County Sheriff Matt Crisafulli highlighted the operation’s scope, stating, “This investigation, which began right here in Worcester County and expanded across the state and throughout the region, demonstrates our unwavering commitment to protecting our communities and holding those who traffic illegal drugs accountable.” His counterpart, Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis, added, “This operation alone has removed millions of dollars’ worth of poison from our streets and dealt a significant blow to the criminal organizations bringing it into our communities. We will continue to work relentlessly with our federal and state partners to keep our communities safe.”
Maryland Governor Wes Moore also voiced support for the initiative, describing it as one of the most substantial drug busts in state history and reaffirming the administration’s dedication to bolstering law enforcement resources. As primary targets have been apprehended, agencies plan to maintain vigilance for any lingering activities associated with the dismantled group, ensuring ongoing threats to public safety on the Eastern Shore are addressed proactively.
